Filariasis

●Filariasis primarily occurs in tropical regions, with higher prevalence in countries across Asia, Africa, and South America. It is less common in North America since the worms responsible for filariasis are not present in the United States.
●Contracting a filariasis infection during a short visit to these countries is rare. However, the risk increases significantly if you reside in a high-risk area for an extended period, such as months or years.
●Filariasis is transmitted through mosquito bites. When a mosquito bites an individual with filariasis, it becomes infected with the filarial worms present in the person’s blood. Subsequently, when the infected mosquito bites another person, the worms are transmitted into the bloodstream of that individual.

Filariasis IgG/IgM Test Kit

The Filariasis IgG/IgM Rapid Test Kit is a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay. The test cassette consists of: 1) a burgundy colored conjugate pad containing recombinant W. bancrofti and B. malayi common antigens conjugated with colloid gold (Filariasis conjugates) and rabbit IgG-gold conjugates, 2) a nitrocellulose membrane strip containing two test bands (M and G bands) and a control band (C band). The M band is pre-coated with monoclonal anti-human IgM for the detection of IgM anti- W. bancrofti and B. malayi, G band is pre-coated with reagents for the detection of IgG anti-W. bancrofti and B. malayi, and the C band is pre-coated with goat anti rabbit IgG.

Filariasis Test Kit FAQs

Are BoatBio filaria test cassettes 100% accurate?

False positives and false negatives can occur with filaria test cassettes. A false positive result indicates that the test incorrectly identifies the presence of filarial antigens or antibodies when the person is not infected with the filarial worms. On the other hand, a false negative result occurs when the test fails to detect filarial antigens or antibodies even though the person is infected.

Can I use the filariasis rapid test cassette at home?

BoatBios IVD test kit is currently intended for use by professionals and is not recommended for self-testing.
